Due to the many private universities being established in the Republic of Ghana, the search of prospective students had become very competitive. There is therefore the urgent need to develop effective student searching strategy for the survival of a private university and also to gain a competitive advantage over others. The aim of this paper is to use a computer application to develop a data mining framework based on the Microsoft decision tree algorithm, to generate useful rules for selecting qualified but rejected applications of prospective undergraduate students from a public university. The results can provide decision rules relating personal information of a prospective student with guardian information, occupation and average salary per year.
