Building projects are usually multifaceted and highly diverse to deal with, in comparison to projects done in the previous years, current projects are more time restricting, giving rise to immense technical challenges, and rarely gives the impression to have enough resources. All of this leads to increased project risk; this runs through most projects because every building project involves risks. The management within the building industry requires reliant approach to information and knowledge in order to manage risks in an adequate and organized method of action. Thus, the implementation of an effective risk management in relation to managing associated project risk knowledge may expedite successful building / construction project endeavors.
The aim of this study is to develop an understanding of issues pertaining to managing risks in building projects as well as approaches for efficient and effective management of risks in projects within the building industry. This was carried out by providing background specification on risk management, it outlines the aims and objectives, the purpose of study and touches on ethical considerations. This paper tends to review the existing comprehensive (work of literature) and presenting how this study is distinguished from the others. Alongside, a number of theoretical concepts and views of experts and researchers with respect to the subject area and their input to the existing literature. It additionally, provides the methodological framework and includes strategies adopted in obtaining data, how achievable and well argued it was, to help in providing data analysis. This study finally highlights the analysis, findings and discussion of results derived from the data gathered. It provides an accurate presentation of data with a clever interpretation of results, and as a final point, summarizes the dissertation, by stating the outcome of the surveys as well as providing recommendations and references for future research guidelines on project risks within the range of the building / construction industry.
