Title A name given to the resource Museological Representations of African-American History, Cultures, and Experiences Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Robert Ebo Hinson Description An account of the resource My thesis comparatively analyzes museological representations of African-American history, cultures, and experiences in four museums: the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama; the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago, Illinois; the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.; and the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, England. In addition to examining these histories, this thesis also questions the roles of location and politics in the creation of these museums, as well as how these elements impact the narratives presented in each institution. Moreover, this thesis incorporates debates from museum studies and tourism studies, applying concepts like authenticity and the tensions between education and entertainment to black history museums. This research also questions how these museums approach historical narratives in our modern world. In a highly-politicized time in which truth and fiction have been falsely equated, this thesis considers how the purpose of black history museums has evolved to respond to modern societal tensions. The conclusions from this thesis will contribute a full-length study of museum analyses to the field of African-American museum studies. While extensive research has been conducted regarding the background of black historical preservation, the African-American museum movement, and the origins of individual institutions, there have been no major examinations of the ways that these museums represent history, how these representations compare to those in other museums, and how black history museum narratives are impacted by geographic, political, and cultural frameworks. Moreover, this thesis will serve as one of the first large-scale engagements with the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Finally, this thesis demonstrates the importance of exploring the ways that African-American history is represented in a nonAmerican museum. This transatlantic focus extends the American-based scope that currently dominates the field, and the original perspectives gained from this inclusion may encourage further international engagement in future literature. The radiators are etched on the surfaces of two Taconic TLY-5 substrates with a circular hole cut out of each of the radiators initially at the centers of the radiators with subsequent downward displacement of the holes. The antenna is designed with a two-step feeding transformer system for impedance matching between the input power source supplied by a 50-Ω SMA connector and the monopole radiators. The transformer system improves the bandwidth performance at higher frequencies. The proposed antenna achieves a wideband having the capability of working between 0.645 and 18.775 GHz, corresponding to a-10 dB bandwidth of 186.7% with gain ranging from 0.95 to 8.26 dBi. Moving conceptualizations of dark tourism forward, we utilize the interpretative phenomenological frame to investigate the interrelationships between tourism and current conditions of society. We do this by qualitatively studying tourists' experiences while in the process of attending dark tourism oriented music festivals that prominently feature direct confrontation with abjection. Our findings indicate that these abjection-oriented festivals allow tourists to encounter blood, animal corpses and other death elements in a ritual-like context within the confines of a transitory space. Ultimately, our research reveals how dark tourism festivals featuring abjection can allow some tourists to feel closer to actual death. The data is collected by means of focus groups and Facebook posts to discover motives to browse Internet. Thematic analysis is performed to analyse the data which includes recording, coding, and development of emergent themes. The four motives to browse Internet which are: Communication, Career Management, Information seeking, and Academic performance. The study is unique in two aspects. First, the data triangulation is achieved by methodological advancement to explore the motives behind Internet browsing. Secondly, the business students from a developing Asian country are selected to render some country specific strategies to make productive use of Internet.
