This paper explores the role (s) of VTOs in a rural volunteer tourism hub in Ghana from a host community perspective using a phenomenological inquiry. An integrated framework of Critical/Institutional Analysis and Development (C/IAD) was used to examine host community experience with VTOs’ role. Data was collected through focus group discussion and in-depth interviews with 43 residents of Asebu-Ghana. The study revealed that while VTOs act as facilitators and interpreters of local culture, issues of over-regulation and protectionism isolate guests from the host as well as rob some host of any meaningful socio-economic benefits and interactions. The results show that Ghana has a higher chance of transitioning to an energy-efficient state but a relatively lower possibility for such efficiency to persist. What's more, it would take 1.2 y for the said efficiency to persist. The study recommends a broad policy overhaul targeting institutional restructuring, energy financing, and regulatory efficiency as means to facilitate the prospects of transitioning and improving energy efficiency persistence. Health Management and promotion thrive on well-articulated CHIS. There are high levels of risk associated with the development of CHIS in the context of least developed countries (LDC), thereby making them unsustainable. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is based largely on literature survey on health promotion and information systems. Findings – The main factors accounting for the sustainability problem in less developed countries include poor infrastructure, inappropriate donor policies and strategies, poor infrastructure and inadequate human resource capacity. To counter these challenges and to ensure that CHIS deployment in LDCs is sustainable, it is proposed that the activities involved in the implementation of these systems be incorporated into organizational routines. This will ensure and secure the needed resources as well as the relevant support from all stakeholders of the system; on a continuous basis.
