Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of social interaction ties, trust and business
networks in the acquisition of foreign business knowledge and foreign institutional knowledge. It also
assesses the effect of these types of knowledge on small and medium enterprises’ (SME) export performance.
Furthermore, this study determines the moderating role of absorptive capacity in the relationship between
foreign business knowledge, foreign institutional knowledge and export performance.
Design/methodology/approach – This study used a survey research design using data from
nontraditional SME exporters in Ghana. There were 257 respondents who were employees (managers/
owners) of SMEs in Ghana. The model was analyzed using structural equation modeling.
Findings – Social interaction ties, trust and business networks have a significant effect on the acquisition of
foreign business knowledge and foreign institutional knowledge. Furthermore, foreign business knowledge
and foreign institutional knowledge have a significant positive effect on export performance. The path
between foreign business knowledge and export performance is also moderated by absorptive capacity.
However, the moderating role of absorptive capacity in the relationship between foreign institutional
knowledge and export performance is not significant.
Originality – This study uses social capital to explain how SMEs acquire foreign business knowledge and
foreign institutional knowledge, and how both affect SMEs’ export performance. Furthermore, it tests the
moderating role of absorptive capacity in the relationship between foreign business knowledge, foreign
institutional knowledge and export performance.

This study examines the impact of government expenditure and government effectiveness on renewable energy consumption in Africa from 1990 to 2021. Utilizing the fixed effects technique, the findings indicate a positive significant relationship between government expenditure and renewable energy consumption, while government effectiveness demonstrates a significant negative influence. Additionally, trade openness and urbanization exhibit a negative impact on renewable energy usage. The effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on renewable energy consumption is found to be mixed. To facilitate the transition towards a greener energy future in Africa, the study recommends several measures including increasing government expenditure on renewable energy, enhancing government effectiveness, promoting sustainable trade practices, and prioritizing sustainable urban planning.

TCE highlights AI's ability to reduce transaction costs and uncertainties, while RBV emphasizes AI's role in resource allocation and logistics optimization. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design is used, complemented by qualitative insights from interviews and surveys. The sample includes 250 suppliers involved in collaborative supply chain initiatives utilizing AI technologies. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analyzes the data, revealing significant relationships between AI-driven communication tools, automation in collaboration processes, real-time data sharing, supplier network integration, and supply chain performance. The findings underscore AI's substantial impact on supply chain performance metrics. AI-driven communication tools, automation, and real-time data sharing capabilities are significant predictors of supply chain performance. The purpose of this chapter is to investigate factors that influence corporate governance issues in Africa and Ghana in particular. Good corporate governance is a key part of any organization that has and wants to maintain confidence, integrity, and efficiency for its stakeholders. It is also the basis to attract and retain best skilled human capital and financial capital on a sustained long-term basis. For this reason, it is important that good corporate governance not only is driven by compliance or regulatory requirements, but very importantly is also seen as a means by which nations, public and private sector companies, and indeed all economies can improve performance, competitiveness, and sustainability. This study seeks to demonstrate how corporate governance activities have influenced business success and how business success can be maintained through good governance in Ghana. It also seeks to ascertain and document how regulation can help shape governance issues in industry.
