<text>The purpose of this study was to investigate causes of delay and cost escalation in strategic project delivery. The energy sectors most specifically the Power Industry remain the backbone of all economies. These accounts for significant injection of capital in building the infrastructure that can help the sector live up to its established function. Executions of these infrastructures are done through strategic projects that continue to experience delays and cost overruns. Delivery of Power Transmission projects in Ghana are also not left without delays and cost escalations leading to many perceived effects on operations of the only power transmission company. What therefore was lacking is the availability of empirical studies to try and document the success or otherwise of public power projects specifically within the transmission phase of the power sector to meet project execution time and cost context. The study aimed at rectifying this gap. A case study design on Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) investigated and identified 14 cause factors of project delay and cost overrun, verified effect of cause factors on operations of the organization and developed a cause effect mitigation model all through the use of a mixed method approach involving 40 participants of the organization who responded to both a close-ended and open-ended questionnaire. Hence the study believed that: capabilities of project managers and supervisors when enhanced and periodic assessment of project risk during project execution coupled with the use of modern computerized systems could help minimize or avoid project overruns.</text>

<text>This research discusses Citizens’ perspectives on health security threats in Ghana. The main objectives were to examine Citizens’ perspectives on Ghana’s preparedness towards managing health security threats; analyse existing measures and/or countermeasures for the recognition of health security threats as an early warning detection system; ascertain at the institutional level, regulatory frameworks and collaborations that exists between public health institutions and national security agencies for managing health security threats from a citizenry perspective and propose a citizencentric National Health Security Preparedness and Response model to mitigate against health risks and threats.
The work is framed within a knowledge and capacity perspective than a security vulnerability perspective. The mixed methods approach which focused on the research problem, using the pluralistic methods of data collection was adopted. Data was collected using interviews and a questionnaire with Likert scale items. Purposive and convenient sampling techniques were employed in the selection of participants and data was analysed using thematic and descriptive analyses. From the analyses, Citizens perceived a strong regulatory framework and institutional collaborations to respond and manage health security threats, however surveillance and detection systems as well as early warning and counter measures against health security threats need strengthening. The major recommendations are the need for a national health security policy, capacity building (including a health security workforce) as well as the development of surge infrastructure and education.</text>

<text>In recent years, Facial Emotional Recognition (FER) has garnered significant attention for its pivotal role across various applications, including human-computer interaction, healthcare, and sentiment analysis. This study is motivated by the need to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of FER systems, with a particular focus on leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) featuring dense architectures. Charles Darwin's groundbreaking work on facial expressions as indicators of human emotional states inspires this research, which aims to elevate FER systems for applications spanning therapy, human-machine interactions, and diverse domains like healthcare, education, and entertainment. While previous studies have recognized CNNs' ability to improve FER accuracy through intricate feature extraction, the evolving nature of the field calls for exploring novel CNN architectures and techniques to further enhance precision and efficiency. In this study, we develop and implement a deep learning model capable of classifying images into seven discrete emotion categories, representing universal human emotions. This objective is achieved by implementing a five-block CNN-based learning algorithm consisting of 44 layers designed to progressively capture complex facial features and expressive patterns. The CNN model performed well on FER and FERG datasets, with accuracy rates of 0.97 and 0.98, showcasing proficiency in facial expression classification. Comparative analysis highlighted its competitive accuracy, emphasizing the importance of feature extraction and architecture design. This research advances facial emotion recognition …</text>

<text>Purpose - Market orientation and positioning have been widely recognized as organizational metrics linked
to hotel performance. The purpose of this study is to offer the link among market orientation, positioning and
hotel performance in Ghana's (luxury) hotel sector. It also reports on the joint influence of market orientation
and positioning on hotel performance in the same sector.
Design/methodology/approach - Three hypotheses were investigated on the link between market
orientation and hotel performance, positioning and hotel performance, and the joint effect of market
orientation and positioning on hotel performance. A survey of star-rated (luxury) hotels in the capital city of
Ghana was used. One hundred and five responses were used in the analysis. Descriptive statistics,
exploratory factor analysis and hierarchical regression were used to test the three hypotheses.
Findings - All hypotheses were accepted. Market orientation and positioning jointly affect hotel
performance, and the study provides hotel managers with suggestions on how to enhance their performance
via market orientation and positioning.
Research limitations/implications - Management perspectives on market orientation, positioning
and hotel performance were sought to the exclusion of customers.
Originality/value - This study is one of the few attempts to systematically investigate the intertwined
concepts of market orientation, positioning and performance in a developing economy hospitality context.

<text>Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) contribute immensely to the economy of every nation. Particularly, within the informal sector, MFIs constitute the pivot around which many financially disadvantaged individuals rely on in terms of access to finance for their businesses. MFIs play a tremendous role in the poverty reduction and employment creation agenda of many nations including Ghana. Notwithstanding the immense role MFIs play in the economies of nations, there is a wide recognition of the fact that the institutions can perform better if they are able to overcome the challenges they face in their operations. However, in order for MFIs to effectively tackle the challenges they encounter, it is important for them to first identify and appreciate these challenges and the threats they pose to the effectiveness of their operations. Within this context, this study sought to explore the challenges MFIs in Ghana face, with particular emphasis on those operating in Takoradi. The study was quantitative, with descriptive survey as the design. Managers and employees of MFIs located in the city licensed by the Bank of Ghana were involved in the study. Simple random sampling method was used to select 114 respondents for the study and questionnaire was relied upon for data collection. The researchers used frequencies, percentages, an independent samples t-test and ANOVA as tools for data analysis. The study observed that increased competition in the industry, low repayment rates, higher cost of information technology, low level knowledge of operators, inadequate and expensive infrastructure base, high capital requirements, unfavourable regulation and …</text>

<text>Sedimentation of particles in cocoa drink is a technological challenge for the food industry. This study investigates the effect of different stabilizers (alginate, xanthan gum or carrageenan) on the suspension stability of cinnamon-cocoa drink made from 2 types of cocoa powder (natural or alkalized). Rheological and microstructural properties determination was used to examine the stabilization effect mechanism. The cocoa powder characteristic was investigated to study the correlation between cocoa powder properties and suspension stability. The results showed that xanthan gum is the most effective stabilizer to prevent particle sedimentation of the cinnamon-cocoa drink. Xanthan gum formed a network entrapping the particles. It increased the viscosity from 2.47 to 70.44 mPa s at a shear rate of 10/s. The drink formulated with alkalized cocoa powder has a better stability than that formulated with natural …</text>

<text>Investigating the impact of HRM practices in the Nigerian building construction industry and how they influence improvement in the organizational performance is the outcome of this research work. Ongoing research work on the impact of human resource management practices on project based companies has been undertaking mainly in developed countries, however little research study on this aspect has been undertaking in developing countries particularly Nigeria. Despite the fact that it’s universally agreed that building construction industry still remains labor intensive in spite of the technological advancement. This makes the role of employees in the industry to be very critical in the success of this organization, hence the need to acquire and manage them effectively and efficiently through the soft model of HRM practices of every organization for the overall benefits of all stakeholders. The research study develop a theoretical framework that was constructed containing some four practices of HRM (recruitment & selection, training & development, job evaluation and performance appraisal) as independent variables in order to test the dependent variable of improvement in organizational performance. Purposive sampling method was adopted in the search for quantitative data using five-scale likert style closed-ended questionnaires as the research instrument. Statistical package for social science (SPSS) was used in the analysis of the primary data gathered. The findings of the research reinforce the findings of similar research in the field of study, that these HRM practices have significant impact that can influence improvement in the organizational performance and that the practices complement each other.
The research was concluded with the recommendation that construction companies should engage the services of trained personal in HRM in order to maximize the positive impact of the practices. It will be good also for the project managers to also be involved in the training. Finally of the four practices, the recruitment and selection is believed to be the bedrock of having well committed employees.</text>
