Net profit earnings of the firm was used as the dependent variable for the study whilst the independent variables constituted some characteristic indicators that can affect the firm’s performance such as earnings per share, return on equity, return on assets, return on investments and overheads. Five listed companies namely; the Ghana Commercial Bank, Enterprise Insurance, Mechanical Lloyd, Aluworks Ghana Limited and Standard Chartered Bank were used for the study. A random model was used to test for the effects of the various variables on firm’s performance using a panel data. The results show that earning per share was significant and positive in explaining firm’s performance whilst return on investment and overheads were significant but negative in explaining firm’s performance. Return on assets and return on equity were however, insignificant in explaining firm’s performance. it is therefore recommended that firms trade on the stock exchange to attract more shareholders through their share pricing as this will enable them to increase their capital gain as well as the public patronizing not only in their shares but also being part of them and hence patronizing their products since they will have a stake in it. The paper examines empirically the causal link between financial sector development and economic growth in Ghana. The Johansen Co-integration techniques within a bi-variate vector auto-regressive framework were used for the regression. Using a quarterly time series set of data on Ghana over a ten year period (2000–2009), the result of the study shows that, there is a statistically significant positive relationship between the Financial Sector Development and Economic Growth in Ghana. This outcome is in line with the results found for most of the literature reviewed. It is recommended that Government should encourage competition in the financial sector and micro finance development as these will improve and increase outreach and access to credit at a lower cost. This will boost private sector development and investments which is the engine of growth and development. This study will help policy makers in decision making as well as serve as a source of reference for further studies. Further studies are recommended to increase the frontiers of this study. Further research on the role of financial sector developments–following Hasan et al.(2006)–is warranted in order to gain a more conclusive understanding of the finance-growth nexus in a transitional country like Ghana. This study was set to examine the effect elections and other macroeconomic variables on growth in Ghana. Data for the estimation was collected for the period, 1992-2010, during which Ghana has had an uninterrupted democratic elections. The results of the analysis show that political cycles do not exist in Ghana, which lends support to the views of (Ito and Park, 1999; Alesina et al, 1992, 1993; Brender and Drazen, 2005). Nonetheless, pre-election manipulations of some sort is a common phenomenon as its manifestation becomes glare as abuse of incumbency is noticed even though data do not suggest so.
